The Holzer Center for Cancer Care’s “Healing Garden” is the home of the world’s first Reflection Labyrinth¬©, designed by Debi and Marty Kermeen. This labyrinth was created for their patients, families and staff as a place of meditation, prayer and reflection. The labyrinth doubles as a courtyard in the center of the garden and serves as a gathering place for those who are healing.

Design collaboration with John Ridder (Photos by Norma Stark)

Labyrinth maker John Ridder of Paxworks, invited us to create his newly designed eight circuit Melissa labyrinth pattern in pavers. One of his clients, Norma Stark, wanted it as the feature piece for a beautiful memorial garden.

After talking with Norma and  Jim, we learned that the number 13 was very significant to them. Weddings, birthdays, times of major change in their life, all taking place on the 13th.

To honor the importance of the number 13, Marty hand carved a perfect golden spiral in the shape of a 30″ Nautilus shell with 13 distinct chambers. The carving was incorporated into the center of this unique and beautiful labyrinth. Norma tells us that all the visitors are compelled to bend down and touch the stone when they arrive at the center of the labyrinth..

Harmony Farm Wellness and Retreat Center Labyrinth

Harmony Farm Wellness and Retreat Center Labyrinth

Harmony Farm Wellness and Retreat Center commisioned Labyrinths in Stone to create a beautiful paver labyrinth on their 120 acre facility, calling it “labyrinth in the woods.” There is also a small lake, grotto with hot tub, tennis court, trails, gardens and special areas to relax and meditate. They also offer a variety of therapeutic massages as well as retreats, classes and seminars. Their goal is to provide a healing, natural environment that enables people to relax and experience the sense of balance and well-being that we all want.
